Leconfield managed to keep to winning ways this week with a good
victory
over Hessle Sporting A in the first round of the Plate. Leconfield knew
that
this would not be an easy match and went out from the start trying to
grab
the first goal. This they managed to do with a goal after 10 minutes
from
Joe Coates. He came in from the right and finished with style in the
bottom
corner. Leconfield also got the second goal with an excellent shot
which
left the keeper with no chance from Jonathon Freeman. Leconfield kept
up the
pressure but were unable to add to their lead before halftime.
In the second half Hessle were determined not to give away any more quick goals and defended solidly. Until Leconfield found another way through and scored a third. Jonathon Riley was injured in a tackle on the halfway line and had to receive treatment. Peter Johnson decided to take the free kick. When Jonathon was back on his feet he took up a position right on the line of the Hessle back four. Peter curled over the free kick straight to him, he took one touch and then blasted it in to the back of the net, to leave the score 3-0 to Leconfield. Leconfield’s new striker Matthew Crowley was making his debut for Leconfield today and he scored two after he came on at half time. The first was a rocket of a shot from a Leconfield player which the keeper managed to parry onto the post. It bounced of across the face of the goal and Matthew was on hand to bury it in the back of the net. The second was another shot from close range which just passed the keepers out stretched hand, this left the score at 5-0 to Leconfield. Hessle had some chances after that but were unable to claw back any gap in the score. In the final moments of the game Jonathon Riley went on a run down the left wing and put in a cross. Shaun Gibson went diving in and sent a glancing header into the net. That was literally the last kick of the game which left the score at 6-0 to Leconfield and also put Hessle Sporting A out of the Plate compitition.
