  Under 14 Drypool Season 2001-2002

18/11/01 Riston Rangers 7 Hedon Rangers 0
Riston returned to winning ways gaining revenge over Hedon Rangers who had knocked them out of the cup in September.

Straight from the kick-off Riston played quick passing football resulting in pressure on Hedon's goal. The game remained scoreless through a combination of fine goalkeeping and wayward finishing.

After about 20 mins the breakthrough finally came with Williamson tapping home after a goalmouth scramble. A rare Hedon attack saw Pickering make an excellent save in what was proving to be an uneventful game for the Riston keeper. More first half domination led to two further goals before half-time. The first saw Phil Keith's strong header turned into his own goal by a Hedon defender. The other was almost another OG but Singleton applied the final touch in another scramble. Strangely enough the goals came when Riston played their poorest football. Half-time 3 - 0.

The second half saw a similar pattern with Riston well on top although once again goals were slow to come. Gonzalez's strong tackling & running with the ball was eventually rewarded with two well taken goals. More pressure led to corners which allowed Smith to move up from defence and he hit a lovely strike from the edge of the box to make it 6 0. All through the match Phil Keith's strength and pace had tormented Hedon and he finally got his reward by scoring the seventh. Rare Hedon attackes were comfortably dealt with by Winder, ably supported by Brooks, Lloyd and Hunt.

After last week's defeat it was good to get back to winning ways and whilst the scoreline could have been bigger, the clean sheet was well deserved.

Although outplayed, Hedon's players deserve much credit for a never say die performance. They worked very hard, tackled strongly and never gave up, particularly the overworked defence and the goalkeeper who made a series of fine saves.

Riston's men of the match were Smith & Gonzalez for strong all round good play -and goals. Phil Keith also recieved an MOM for a performance which saw him produce the form his management know he is capable of.
