  Under 11 Drypool Season 2001-2002

11/11/01 Hessle Sporting Club B 1 Elloughton Tigers 2
After three successive defeats, the important thing was to get back to winning ways. However we had hoped that it would have been in more comfortable circumstances. The first half was excellent, we set about our host’s goal and in truth should have scored more than we did. Ben Watkin set us on the way with a flick header to across then Matthew Hatfield finished off a twisting and turning run from Mark Shaw for the second to give us a 2-0 lead at half time, looking well in control.

It was during the interval that our problems started, Oliver Cross had to come off due to illness, Tim McCune went in goal and we reshuffled around. We never controlled the half as we had the first, Hessle grabbed a goal back and from then on we were battling to hold on. They struck the post, had two cleared off the line and we owed a great debt to Tim McCune for three great saves to prevent clear be breakaways. We did have our own periods of pressure, but reluctance to shoot or the lack of a killer instinct let us down. In the end we held out, a draw would have been fair but we took the slice of luck we were given and got back to winning ways. Dane Mortimer took the parents’ vote for Man of the Match whilst Tim McCune took the players’ vote.

Team: Cross (sub: Brownlee (sub: Hardaker)), Mortimer, Herbert, Scott, Walker, McCune, Shaw Watkin, Hatfield, Arksey (sub: Wilson), Hussain.
