  Under 14 Drypool Season 2001-2002

28/10/01 Westella & Willerby 0 Riston Rangers 2
Riston with a depleted squad started the game kicking downhill and with the slight wind. The game went end to end with neither side creating a decent chance. The deadlock was broken from a direct free-kick just outside the box, which Baker hit into the top corner well beyond the keepers reach.

Riston gradually had more of the possession but Willerby always threatened on the break. The second goal came when Gonzalez picked the ball up in midfield and ran through several defenders before placing the ball into the bottom corner. Riston should have made it 3 : 0 when Williamson turned a defender and tried to flick the ball over the keeper who made a good save. Riston didn't have it all their own way as a great Willerby shot from the edge of the box hit the bar and acted as a warning for the second half.

The second half saw Willerby making good use of the pitch and having plenty of the ball, putting together some fine flowing moves. The Riston defence stood resolute with numerous well timed challenges. Stand-in keeper Parkinson was kept busy and produced 2 good saves, pushing the ball away for corners.

Whilst Riston soaked up pressure they were always a threat at the other end with singleton working overtime. Williamson got through twice but was again thwarted by the well positioned keeper.

A very entertaining game saw no further goals but was a credit to the boys who always tried to pass the ball but never lacked commitment in the tackle. Riston's re-arranged team just about shaded it and took the points.

Men of the match for Riston were stand in keeper Parkinson, Gonzalez for none stop running and Smith who was a rock in defence.
