Ferriby started the better of the two teams, playing some neat football
and keeping possession. But Rovers put in a hardworking performance to
stop Ferriby creating any real goalscoring opportunities. The defences
came out on top in the first half, and the score remained goalless.
The second half started in much the same way as the first had finished. Then Ferriby made a couple of substitutions (including the Keeper). At this point, Rovers started to create more oportunities. The Manager moved Fletcher forward from full back, but did not make any substitutions. Shortly after the change Rovers took the lead when Fletcher hit in a rebound off the Ferriby keeper. Ferriby started to push Rovers back, and the pressure soon paid off. The Rovers keeper pushed out a cross, which fell to a Ferriby forward on the edge of the area. The ball was hit back over the keeper into the top of the Rovers net. This levelled the score at 1:1. Rovers started to push forward again, and they created more scoring opportunities. Again Fletcher was in the right place to punish the Ferriby defence, and scored his second goal to put Rovers in front again. The game ended with Rovers on top, and pinning Ferriby back in their own half. Fletcher missed a near open goal to deny himself a hat-trick. Rovers just about deserved the win, although a draw would probably have been a fair result. |
