Filey maintained their 100% start to the season with a hard-fought win
over Hessle. The first half was very close as Hessle never allowed Filey to
settle, and apart from a Ryan Marsh goal midway through the half very
few chances were created. Hessle got a deserved equaliser with a Stephen
Knott goal at the start of the second half; but slowly Filey began to find
some of their passing game. Matthew Burton scored a second and soon Ryan Marsh
scored his second to make it 3 -1. Jordan Powell came on as a sub, and
scored immediately to make it 4-1. To their credit Hessle never gave up
and Tim Robinson pulled a goal back. Filey then began to dominate and added
three late goals with another from Jordan Powell and 2 from Richard
Ossai to make the final score 7-2.
Jack Ferguson, Lee Eblet and Barry Smith had excellent games in the first half, and prevented Hessle from taking a deserved lead, and Jordan Powell had an excellent second half having come on as a sub. The result suggests an easy win, but Filey will have to work a lot harder than this if they are to keep up their winning start. All credit to Hessle for their attitude and performance. |
