After suffering a defeat in the cup last week at the hands of Biggan
Leconfield were keen to get back to winning ways. They started however
not
very well against Fairbank. Fairbank pushed forward straight from the
off
putting loads of pressure on Leconfield, winning the 50/50 balls and
coming
out on top of tackles. After 5 minutes Leconfield started turning the
match
their way with some excellant passing moves down both wings. This
resulted
in a goal about 15 mins in from Scott Tyler. The ball was crossed in
from
the left and after Fairbank failed to clear Scott took advantage and
smashed
the ball in from 6 yards.
Five minutes later Leconfield added to their lead with a goal from
Johnathon
Freeman. It again came from a cross from the left. The ball came to
Johnathon who put it in the back of the net through the keepers legs. A
minute from the end and Faibank managed to claw back a goal. It came
when
Leconfield failed to clear a corner and a Fairbank player smashed it in
from
6 yards and that was the last kick of the first half.
In the second half both teams came out battleing, Leconfield trying to hold onto their lead and Fairbank trying to claw back the 1 goal gap. However it was Lecofield who scored first, yet again from the left hand side. It was crossed in and when Shaun Gibson swung and missed it Scott Tyler was on hand to clear up and put the ball in the net for his second goal. Fairbank really needed a goal now and fast. They really started pressing Leconfield back deep into their half and eventually it paid off. Leconfield gave away a sloppy freekick on the edge of the area and this resulted in a Fairbank goal. It was Leconfield who responded to this with another goal in this high scoring match. It came through Shaun Gibson who took it round a few players and calmly put it in the back of the net. Jonathon Riley then added to Leconfields goal tally with a great run finshed off with a chip over the keepers head. Written by Leconfield Swinemoor Captian Peter Johnson |
