Previous form for either side gave no clues as 4th met 3rd in this re-arranged fixture.
Two early breakaway goals from Springhead seemed to spell doom for us as, once again our
shyness in shooting positions looked to be our undoing. Indeed it took a huge slice of
luck to get us going: Tim McCune took a throw-in on the left into Adam Arksey, took the
return and hit a hopeful shot goal ward. To our surprise their keeper misjudged the
flight, allowed the ball to creep in at the near post and let us back into the game.
Half time score 1-2.
This seemed to be the spur we needed as we dominated the second half, creating chance after chance. Although we still wasted more than we should have we still found the net four times, twice through close range tap-ins from Matty Hatfield and another 2 from Tim McCune to complete his hat-trick. Credit Springhead, they never gave up the chase and got a late reward when catching our defence asleep from a throw-in. Final score 5-3, and another victory to get our season back on track. Mark Shaw just claimed the parents’ vote for Man of the Match by the narrowest of margins. Team: Cross, Domney, Mortimer, Herbert, Walker (sub: Scott), McCune, Shaw Watkin, Hatfield, Arksey (sub: Hardaker), Hussain. |
