With icy winds and a very heavy pitch this was Parkside's first league game of the new
year, having lost in the quarter finals to Holtby 8-0 the previous week. The lads answered
any questions the manager may have had about their commitments by coming back from a very
heavy defeat to win a hard fought game.
Hessle took only 3 minutes to put themselves 1-0 up with some food combination passes. The Raiders settled themselves down but where still under a lot of pressure from the home team. Goal keeper Matt Colven made some excellent saves keeping the Raiders in the game. With 10 minutes left in the first half Parkside changed their tactics which paid off, and with a new lease of life Parkside started to attack the oppositions goal, which resulted in Parkside top goal scorer Leon Sheldon getting the equaliser. After the break the Raiders piled on the pressure with some excellent display of football, but Hessle to their credit would not cave in, with shots going over the bar, hitting the post and saves by their keeper it looked as though we were going to earn ourselves a draw. But Parkside kept plugging away until eventually after a scramble in the six yard box Leon Sheldon scored his second to clinch the game. It was a good team effort where they all deserved a pat on the back. Well done lads. Dot & Olly's man of the match were awarded to Danny Wilson & Matt Colven. |
