Watts 4x4 sponsored Spartans started with only 12 fit players, missing both keepers and
last seasons reserve keeper. Holtby kicked off and for the first 10 minutes pushed the
Spartans back and hemmed them into their own goalmouth. As they struggled to clear the
ball into a strong wind it came as no suprise when Holtby took the lead and had it not
been for Nicky Cruddas making his first start in goal,Spartans could have been further
behind. Spartans though soon sparked into life and Luke Boynton followed up his own
strike against the bar to force home the equaliser. John Hall then scored a hat-trick to
ease Spartans ahead and Sean Tyers finished off the scoring to leave the Spartans with a
5-1 interval lead. Spartans Tom Cross was unfortunate to pick up an injury during the
first period and had to be replaced, leaving the squad down to the last 11 fit players.
The restart saw Spartans again on the attack and Scott Lapworth scored twice to increase the lead.John Hall then scored Spartans 8th and his fourth as Spartans were now well in control. Rich Cobden then picked up a slight injury and replaced Nicky Cruddas in goal who returned to his normal outfield position.Cruddas then got his own name on the scoresheet and was unlucky not to get a second when his drive struck the underside of the bar the ball crossing the line and bouncing back into play.Luke Bonton then scored his 2nd before Scott Lapworth added 2 more and Nicky Cruddas rounded off the scoring to leave Spartans 13-1 winners. Managers Comment:-After a very slow start Spartans gradually improved and ran out clear winners. With several of the players not feeling 100% it was a well earned victory but we must learn to take more of the numerous chances we seem to create. M.O.M. Nicky Cruddas, great in goal, strong in defence and 2 goals. |
