NOTE FROM PETE: THE FOLLOWING REPORT WAS SENT TO THE WEBSITE DESCRIBING A 2-0 VICTORY FOR WESTELLA. HOWEVER, WESTELLA WERE SUBSEQUENTLY FOUND TO HAVE FIELDED AN INELIGIBLE PLAYER AND A 2-0 VICTORY WAS AWARDED TO PRESTON BY THE LEAGUE. Westella started the brighter side and almost opened the scoring on numerous opportunities, however Preston hit back and had a few strikes on goal themselves but 10 minutes before the break Westella broke the deadlock in fortunate fashion. Brewis lofted a ball into the box as the Preston defense watched it bounce over the stranded goalkeeper and into the back of the net. WESTELLA 1-0 PRESTON Westella had more chances after the goal and Preston were very lucky not to be more goals down at the interval. Second Half Preston , now attacking down the hill, were on the offensive all second half and would have ran out easy winners if not for some resolute defending by Richardson and Noddy and some excellent goalkeeping. Westella kept hitting back with fast breaks hoping to get the killer goal which didnt arrive until 3 minutes from time when Steve was put through on goal and won the ball from the oncoming goalkeeper to tap into and empty net WESTELLA 2-0 PRESTON |
