On paper and despite the greatest of respect to our opponents, this looked one of our
easier fixtures of the season. Indeed the pattern of the day was set as early as the
fourth minute when Ben Watkin raced away and slid the ball into the host’s net. Further
first half goals from Tim McCune and Steve Gibbons with 2 each and a solo effort from
Thomas Brownlee gave us a commanding 6-0 half time lead.
With a big slope in our favour for the second half more goals always looked on the menu. Indeed had it not been for a fine display from the Cave keeper we would have added many more although it should be said, we didn’t always take the best option. As it was we added a further 4 goals: 3 from Thomas Brownlee and 1 from Tim McCune as they both completed their hat tricks. Final Score: 10-0. Votes for both man of the match awards were spread throughout the team and no-one could really be declared the 'winner'. Credit should go to South Cave. It cannot be easy to keep going with the results they get each week, yet they never threw in the towel and kept battling to the end. Team: Cross, Mortimer, Herbert, Brownlee, Walker, McCune, Gibbons, Shaw, Watkin (sub: Scott), Hussain (sub: Domney), Hardaker. |
