The wettest weekend of the season producing a gluepot pitch was never going to give us a
classic encounter so credit both sides for never giving up. The first half belonged to us,
as once again we got the early break through when Ben Walker burst onto the ball in the
Cottingham area and slid the ball home. A second from Ben Walker, a fortunate own goal
and a low drive from inside the box from Adam Arksey put us in a commanding 4-0, half time
lead.
The second half was much more even as Cottingham threatened several breakaways and generally picked up their game. We still had the majority of the play, but as was the case last week, we never converted enough chances in their area. We did however add 4 more goals: 2 from Ben Watkin, the expected solo effort from Steve Gibbons and one from Craig Scott. Cottingham registering 2 goals of their own in reply including a long range free kick that somehow squirmed past 2 defenders and our keeper at the near post! Final score 8-2 to us. For the second successive week Ben Watkin won the parents’ vote for Man of the Match also winning the vote from the players for their MoM. Scorers: Watkin 2, Walker 2, Arksey, Gibbons, Scott, Own Goal Team: McCune, Domney (sub: Scott), Mortimer, Herbert, Brownlee (sub: Hardaker), Wilson (sub: Hussain), Walker, Arksey, Shaw, Watkin, Hatfield (sub: Gibbons) |
