Back into action with an away fixture at Springhead. On a gluepot of a pitch both sides got off to reasonable starts yet
failed to really test either keeper. It was Springhead who got the breakthrough first and took an early lead. This seemed
to inspire us as we pushed forward in search of the equaliser. Several opportunities went begging before we bagged a goal
from a close range Ben Walker effort. For most of the half Springhead’s biggest threat appeared to be from the
breakaway and this it proved to be when their forward outpaced our defence from a through ball on halfway to slide the
ball home. 1-2 at half time.
As with so many games this year we dominated the second half. Unfortunately several opportunities weren’t capitalised on and it was almost ten minutes in when Craig Scott hit a rasping left foot drive from just inside the box to level up the score. On top we pushed forward yet couldn’t find a way through as solid defending, the post (twice) and a fine goalkeeping display from their keeper kept us out. Springhead did have their own chances late on but in truth, they were one off attempts. Still points aren’t awarded for possession, only for scoring more goals. Neither side did and honours were even in a 2-2 draw. Tim McCune took both the parents’ and the player’s votes for Man of the Match. Team: Cross, Domney, Herbert, Wilson (sub: Mortimer), Walker (sub: Scott), McCune, Gibbons, Shaw, Hatfield (sub: Watkin), Arksey (sub: Hardaker), Hussain. |
