Gala were at full strength for this game against bottom of the league
Ferry
Inn. In fact they had fifteen players to choose from, quite a nice
problem
for Manaager Tony Kipling to have.
Against all expectations it was Ferry who made the early running and
came
close to scoring in the opening minute. Gala took notice and a terrific
strike from Davies hit the upright. Gala still looked lethargic and it
was
against the run of play when Davies went on a solo run to open the
scoring
for them.
The floodgates were expected to open but instead Ferry equalised with a
great
goal. The Gala defence was in tatters as Ferry almost took the lead but
once
again Gala broke away and despite two attempts being kicked off the
line
Thompson finally cracked the ball in to make it 2-1. Gala attacked
again and
though the ball went out of play Gala were awarded a corner and Mickman
scrambled a shot in to make it 3-1.
To their credit Ferry fought back again and made it 3-2 with another
great
goal from a very good cross.
When the Ferry keeper let a Giblin shot slip through his hands it was
the
start of a Gala surge that made the halftime score 6-2 after two
further
goals from Davies.
As in previous games Gala's fitness and pace had the opposition struggling to avoid a rout and when they brought on Stafford and Chadwick as subs it was all too much for Ferry and Stafford scored a quick fire hat-trick after Giblin had scored earlier. The final score of 10-2 flattered Gala a bit but the quality of this team will take some stopping. Davies was the star of this particular show with good support from Giblin. Mickman led the line well and Thompson did a lot of productive running, and of course Staffords late show gave us a quality finish to the game. Gala Scorers: Davies 3, Stafford 3, Giblin 2, Mickman 1, Thompson 1 |
