Spartans travelled to Hedon to play their first official fixture of the season. With 8
players unavailable Spartans squad included 5 debutants including new keeper Danny Cowton
and 4 players signed from Hornsea Town Santi Martinez,Luke McQuigan,Sam Taylor and Luke
Naylor.
The first half saw Spartans attacking from the start and apply endless pressure towards the Preston goal. It came as no suprise when Lapworth opened the scoring with a well placed header from a Taylor cross. Spartans movement and passing meant Preston struggled to get a hold of the ball and Hall soon increased the lead with a neat finish.Lapworth scored Spartans third before Green scored the fourth with a well struck shot from distance.Dan Barry celebrated his birthday by scoring Spartans fifth just before the interval. The second half saw Spartans playing into a strong wind but they kept applying the pressure on the Preston goal.Spartans defence of Barry,Martinez,McQuigan and Slinn allowed nothing to get by them and supported the midfield with some strong running. With Taylor and Lapworth causing problems on the wings ably supported by Cruddas and Green in the midfield Spartans were always on top. With Naylor and Hall paying well together up front more goals were to follow. A further six goals came their way through Lapworth 2, Botterill 2, Cruddas and Hall to round off a comprehensive victory.Preston to their credit played with great spirit and determination but were unable to trouble Cowton in the Spartans goal. Coaches man of match: Sam Taylor. |
