  Under 11 Season 2001-2002

07/10/01 Round 1 Fairbank 0 Elloughton Tigers 14
A break from league action saw us visit Fairbank in the first round of the cup. On paper this looked to be our hardest challenge of the season against what is a team from a higher division. A few changes in personnel were necessary due to unavailability with both Oliver Cross and Rhys Duerden coming in for their first appearances of the season. We got off to a dream start with Steve Gibbons breaking away in the first few minutes to slide the ball home. From then on it was one-way traffic as we looked solid throughout the team and seemed able to score with every attack. Steve Gibbons added another, Adam Arksey the next then Steve completed his hat trick within the first 15 minutes. Another goal from Adam Arksey, yet another from Steve Gibbons and 2 from Ben Watkin saw us into half time with an 8-0 lead.

Credit to Fairbank in the second half for they never threw in the towel; credit further Mr. Dependable, Oliver Cross, back between the posts, who on the rare occasions thwarted their attempts to score. The second half deadlock was broken when Dane Mortimer headed home a corner from the right, then notched a second when forcing the ball home from one from the left. Thomas Brownlee grabbed the next one before Ben Watkin completed his hat trick. The next came from Tim McCune and the final one came from a Craig Scott penalty, deserving the goal to reward his non-stop display down the right. As in previous weeks, we should probably had more yet one could hardly blame the boys for each chancing their luck when others were perhaps in better position? Final score 14-0 and we sit and wait to see who we play in the next round. For the third successive week Ben Watkin won the parents’ vote for Man of the Match also winning a share of the vote with Steve Gibbons from the players for their MoM.
