Hessle Sporting Under 12s travelled to Brough to play local rivals Hessle Rangers in the semi final of the Knock Out Cup.
Both teams started strongly with Sporting soaking up the early pressure from Rangers. Sporting went ahead early in
the first half when Peter Davidson placed a perfect ball between two defenders into the top corner of the Rangers net.
Rangers kept up the pressure but the Sporting defence of Nick Fairbairn, Perry Skelton and Danny Moore held firm and
shortly before half time Davidson put in a cross that was headed by Billy Pougher for the keeper to knock back out for
Pougher to coolly slide in the net. Sporting stand-in keeper Gareth Orris did a tremendous job on several occasions when
Rangers broke free only to be met by some very good saves.
The second half saw Sporting kicking up hill but this did not seem to trouble them as shortly after kick off a cross was whipped in from the right by Josh Lambert to be met by the head of Davidson to give Sporting a 3-0 lead. To their credit Rangers still battled on and scored from a hard low driven shot into the corner of the Sporting net. Sporting continued to move the ball well and were justly rewarded with a well taken header from Lewis Hobley, closely followed by a Nathan Billany volley from well outside the penalty box. The last goal came from a perfectly placed header from Lambert into the roof of Rangers net. Man of the Match was awarded to stand-in keeper Orris and was justly deserved but it was stressed that it was a complete overall team performance and a well earned place in the Knock Out Final for Hessle Sporting. |
