The Howden players were totally overawed by the Myton league front-runners from West Hull
but nevertheless showed a certain amount of character in the way they battled to the end.
After going three goals down within 10 minutes, most Howden players were guilty of letting
their heads drop, apart from skipper Lynden Theaker, who led by example, 'keeper Danny Beck
who, despite the score line, make several superb saves, and midfielders Neil Hunter and
Michael Stubbs who were prepared to make challenge after challenge. At half time, this
quarterfinal cup-tie was well and truly over with West Hull leading 12-0.
In the second half, Howden lost two players to injury and, with other members of the squad not available, had to continue with ten-men. The character of the boys showed through when they held the extremely confident West Hull to only three further goals with 5 minutes to full time. A final score of 17-0 was a big disappointment but hopefully the Howden boys can put this behind them and continue with their progress in the Drypool league. The 'Aquarius of Howden' man of the match went to team captain Lynden Theaker for his effort and commitment. TEAM: 1. D BECK, 2. S WARDALE, 3. D YOUNG, 4. D MURPHY, 5. L T THEAKER, 6. S THOMPSON, 7.
