| Team History/Honours: | The Formation of Centurions F.C. In May 1999 after much pressure from their sons and friends Tony Cable and Stewart Cousins decided to form an under 10's football team to compete in the Withernsea Carnival football competition. Training sessions took place every Sunday morning to check out the level of interest. Between 8 and 10 children were attending regularly and so it was decided to go ahead as most competitions of that age group are either 6 or 7 a side. A name for the team was now required and after much discussion the name of Centurions F.C. was agreed upon as 1998 was Withernsea AFC's centenary year. A kit was acquired with the help of Chris White Sports and so a new team was in the making. In June 1999 the team was entered in an under 10's competition at the Police Ground in Hull, taking in teams from all around the Hull and Holderness area. The team did well and came a creditable third in their age group. July 1999 saw another competition take place, this time at Inmans School, Hedon, again third place was achieved against some strong and well established opposition. The team then entered the Hull Boys Sunday Football League Under 10's Division for the season 1999/2000 which was the inorgurol mini soccer league and finished in the top third out of 36 teams. Last season (2000/2001) we competed in the Myton League. We had originally been allocated a place in the Drypool League before the start of the season but because of the restructuring of the four leagues into three we were offered a place in the Myton League and grasped the opportunity with both hands. We found the going difficult against some very good opposition, but we were and still are, learning all the time and considering the club has only been established for just over two years we think our progress has been excellent. We will now play the 2001/2002 season in the Drypool league and will be trying our best to bounce straight back into the top flight! Long may it continue!! |
